The Equity and Inclusion Campaign is a nonpartisan coalition
of local, state, and national organizations and community members advocating
for structural solutions to end persistent poverty and inequity across the
three states of Alabama, Louisiana and Mississippi,
including fulfillment of the federal commitment to address poverty and
inequity.
We're committed to transforming outcomes for the South by
making sure that the priorities and voices of grassroots communities are
involved in shaping public policy and rebuilding poor communities. We partner
with state and local advocacy groups to achieve our mission.
Values
To
end poverty and inequity in the South, we believe in building a movement and organization
that are accountable to the priorities of low-income communities and supporting
them to make a difference in their own lives, guided by the following values
important to the E&I community:
* The
knowledge, voice, and empowerment of grassroots communities
* Intergenerational movement building
* Integrity, truth telling, character building, and moral leadership
* Meeting people where they are, respect, inclusion, and cultural understanding
* Building individual and community resilience, helping each other learn to
help ourselves
* Opportunity, equity and justice
* Quality, accurate, timely, and user-friendly information
* Transparency and accountability
* Taking action
* Commitment, consistency, and passion to do what it takes to accomplish our
purpose
* Publicly naming our core values and supporting people to live them
Vision
Our
vision is to establish resilient and sustainable communities characterized by
economic, social, and environmental inclusion and equity and community
engagement to advocate for these goals. We work to effect systemic change so
that all people are included, valued, and supported to both develop their
potential and contribute to the strength and resilience of their own lives,
families, communities and the world.
Activities
The
Equity and Inclusion Campaign's primary activity is coordinated policy advocacy
at the federal level to ensure an appropriate level of resources and attention
for an equitable and inclusive Gulf Coast recovery. The Campaign provides
Gulf Coast advocates with regular action alerts and legislative updates to help
them keep up with federal legislative activity affecting the Gulf Coast. The Campaign has sponsored multiple legislative trips to Washington, D.C. where
scores of community members and advocates have met with Members of Congress,
Administration officials and their staff.
The
Campaign has also been successful in attracting new co-sponsors to Gulf
Coast-focused legislation. These congressional champions have made sure
that Gulf Coast priorities are addressed in federal budget and
appropriations
bills. The Campaign has been keeping Members of Congress informed about
regional needs and priorities and calling attention to policy issues related to
recovery in the region. The Campaign also serves as a vital resource for
federal policymakers who continue to fight for Gulf Coast priorities.
