Nicholas Kapustinsky

Nicholas is originally from Santa Fe, NM.  He attended Bard College in upstate New York where he successfully achieved his Bachelor's degree in Political Studies in 2008.   During his time at Bard he was selected to participate in the Bard Globalization and International Affairs program in New York City, where he interned with the Center for Constitutional Rights (CCR).   At CCR Nick focused on prisoners' rights and was lead research assistant on a report that detailed the negative impact of jail expansion in upstate New York.   Following his internship he was hired by CCR to work on the successful Prison Telephone Justice Campaign.   During this period he also tutored poetry to prisoners in upstate New York.  His undergraduate thesis on American Foreign Policy received honors from both Bard and West Point Military Academy.  

Following graduation, Nicholas moved to New York City where he worked as a field manager for the Democratic National Committee in the effort to elect Barack Obama.   During the summer and fall of 2008 Nick was listed as one of the top 10 DNC canvassers in the nation.   Following the election Nicholas interned for a democratic consulting firm where he was eventually promoted and made Director of Operations.  In this role Nick worked as a campaign operative, lobbyist, advance man, and community organizer around the four boroughs of New York City with a number of progressive candidates, unions, non-profits, and PAC's.   Nicholas also helped organize events across the country, including the particularly successful Kids Can't Wait campaign for the Children's Health Fund.  

Before moving to New Orleans, Nick was the Research and Communications Director for a large coalition oif non-profits, labor unions, and businesses where he lobbied for legislation on issues ranging from health care and social security to hunger, infrastructure, and workers safety.
