Dems Urged to Remember Katrina Victims
Excerpts from the story are below.
"Nearly three years to the day after Hurricane Katrina devastated Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama, a group of Gulf Coast non-profit, religious and government officials are trying to use the Democratic Convention to keep their region's rebuilding effort on the radar screen of national lawmakers."
"Called the "Equity and Inclusion Campaign," the effort is an outgrowth of the Baton Rouge-based Louisiana Disaster Recovery Foundation, a 501(c) (3) organization, but includes community groups from Mississippi and Alabama as well. About 30 members of the campaign are in Denver this week lobbying lawmakers and delegates."
"The group's aim is two-fold, say people involved with the effort: to secure more Gulf Coast recovery funding if congressional leaders decide to advance a second economic stimulus bill this fall, and to get the next administration - whether headed by Sens. Barack Obama , D-Ill., or a John McCain , R-Ariz. - to make a major commitment to Gulf Coast rebuilding within 100 days of taking office."
"The group will also send 10 members to the Republican National Convention in Minneapolis-St. Paul next week."
